Sinner declares forfeit for Rome in due to hip injury!
Enormous blow for the Italian camp. Jannik Sinner, world number 2 and winner of the last Australian Open, declares forfeit for the Masters 1000 in Rome. Already forced to withdraw in Madrid (before playing his quarterfinal against Félix Auger-Aliassime), the Italian will not be able to defend his chances in the Italian capital.
Clearly very disappointed, the transalpine just announced the news on his social networks: "It's not easy to write this message, but after talking again with the doctors and hip problem specialists, I have to announce that unfortunately I will not be able to play in Rome. I am obviously very sad not to be able to recover, as it is one of my favorite tournaments. I was looking forward to coming back and playing at home in front of the Italian public. I will come to Rome anyway for a few days and I will be at the Foro Italico. Thank you for your messages of support which I greatly appreciate! Now I will work with my team and doctors to be ready for Roland Garros."
After Alcaraz's withdrawal and doubts still looming on Daniil Medvedev's presence, it is a real cascade of withdrawals that we are witnessing on the Foro Italico side.
