Andreeva receives support from Sharapova:

Andreeva receives support from Sharapova: "I think Mirra Andreeva is going to have an incredible year."

At just 17 years old, Mirra Andreeva is already making waves. Revealed last year during the Madrid tournament where she had received a wildcard before reaching the round of 16 (defeated by Sabalenka). In the span of a year, the Russian player has managed to change her status, moving into the top 50 in the world. Having reached the second week of a Grand Slam twice (Wimbledon 2023, Australian Open 2024), she continues to climb. Back in Madrid, she reached the quarterfinals this time, once again halted by Sabalenka.

Such results, especially at 17, inevitably generate attention. Thus, Maria Sharapova, former world No. 1 and multiple Grand Slam champion (French Open 2012 and 2014, US Open 2006, Australian Open 2008) has spoken about Andreeva. The Olympic silver medalist (2012) did not hesitate to predict a glorious future for the current world No. 40: "I think Mirra Andreeva is going to have an incredible year. I followed some of her matches in 2023, and I think she has a strong attitude, with the game to back it up. I really like her approach and sensitivity to the game. I think she has a bright future ahead of her.” (comments relayed by the WTA).

It's easy to imagine that the 17-year-old prodigy will appreciate the compliment.
